Our story
Why HushHug exists
The first time you dress a newborn, you realize how much fabric matters.
Their skin has never felt anything before - not a tag, not a seam, not a wash cycle's worth of detergent. Whatever you choose for those first weeks isn't really clothing. It's the texture of their first memory of being held.
When our first baby arrived, I was determined to get this part right. I bought everything - the pieces I'd saved on Pinterest for years, the heritage names friends swore by, the well-meaning gifts that piled up at the baby shower. And almost all of it disappointed me. The clothes I loved most were so precious I felt guilty every time they got spit up on. Almost everything else pilled, scratched, or faded after a few washes.
Is this gentle enough?
The one question we ask of every piece we make.
If the answer isn't yes, it doesn't make it into the collection.
Then we found Pima cotton
I started reading about fabrics — really reading. That's how we found it: longer fibers, naturally hypoallergenic, softer with every wash instead of rougher. The "cashmere of cottons," the textile world calls it. And almost no one was making baby clothes from it that felt within reach for a normal family.
Between our first and second baby, we built HushHug. We honored the design language we'd always been drawn to — soft prints, quiet elegance, pieces that look as good in a photograph as they feel against the skin — and made every choice underneath in service of that one question.
Made the way we'd want our own babies dressed
Every HushHug piece is made by a small team of skilled apparel makers we've worked with from day one — the kind of partners who care about a hem the way we care about a baby's skin.
We chose to make fewer pieces, more carefully. Three signature prints. One impossibly soft cotton. Sizes that cover the moments that matter most — from the very first weeks through the wobbly first steps.
No mass production. No corner-cutting. No shortcuts that the parent unwrapping the package would never see, but that we'd know about.
What we promise you
-
Gentle, every time
Every piece passes our personal test: would we put this on our own baby tonight? If the answer isn't an immediate yes, it doesn't ship.
-
Made to be loved at the wash
Our Pima cotton softens with every wash instead of roughening. The pieces you buy at six weeks should still feel beautiful at six months.
-
